چکیده

Abstract Rapid diversification is a way of responding to environmental change for freshwater organisms. This work examined the physicochemical changes and abundance snails in Anambra River (Nigeria) during rainy season. Field studies were conducted fortnightly from June August 2019 at three stations river namely: Otuocha (station I), Otunsugbe II), Ukwubili III) about 8.35 kilometers apart each other. A scoop net 2 cm mesh size handpicking was used sample randomly water samples taken laboratory analysis. total 896 belonging 6 species ( Afropomus balanoidea , Pomacea maculata Lymnea stagnalis Lanistes ovum Pila wernei Saulea vitrea ) collected. most dominant with relative 45.87 %, while least 2.34 %. There significant negative correlation between dissolved oxygen maculate r = –0.877, p 0.002) positive Stagnalis lymnea 0.840, 0.005). The diversity highest (1.171) followed by (1.133) (0.856) average mean temperatures (23.1 ±0.1) °C, (27.30 ±0.00) (26.80 ±0.03) °C respectively. distribution influenced variability Therefore, further longer time different seasons examine impact on snail are encouraged.

The fish fauna of Anambra river basin, Nigeria: species abundance and morphometry.

The fish yields of most Nigeria inland waters are generally on the decline for causes that may range from inadequate management of the fisheries to degradation of the water bodies. Sustainable exploitation requires knowledge of the ichthyofaunal composition in the water bodies. We did a survey of fish species in Anambra river basin for 22 months. Fish samples were collected using four different...

Enhanced future variability during India’s rainy season

[1] The Indian summer monsoon shapes the livelihood of a large share of the world’s population. About 80% of annual precipitation over India occurs during the monsoon season from June through September. Next to its seasonal mean rainfall, the day-to-day variability is crucial for the risk of flooding, national water supply, and agricultural productivity. Here we show that the latest ensemble of...

Changes in pest management practice in almond orchards during the rainy season in California, USA

In California, regulatory agencies are concerned about organophosphate (OP) contamination of surface water. OPs originate in part from applications on dormant almond and stone fruit orchards that are washed off during winter rainstorms. Programs conducted by the University of California Statewide Integrated Pest Management Project, University of California Cooperative Extension, and the Biologi...

Transmission dynamics of malaria in four selected ecological zones of Nigeria in the rainy season.

BACKGROUND Two of the problems of malaria parasite vector control in Nigeria are the diversity of Anopheline vectors and large size of the country. Anopheline distribution and transmission dynamics of malaria were therefore compared between four ecotypes in Nigeria during the rainy season. METHODS Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used in molecular identification after morphological identif...
